Celebrate girls and women with ETC on two special days.

October 11th is International Day of the Girl Child, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011. IDGC “focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights,” according to the UN’s website.

International Day of Rural Women (October 15th) was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2007, in recognition of “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.”

September 8th was International Literacy Day! In Lamidanda VDC, more than 500 of ETC’s women’s group members gathered to celebrate with singing and dancing, games, and recognition of women who were recently elected to public office. These children at Milijuli Lower Secondary School are among the 4,400 who benefit every year because ETC trains their teachers, provides important classroom supplies and materials, and improves school facilities.
