Tuesday Tidbits: Playing Catch-Up!

June 16, 2020

For the month of June, our Tuesday Tidbits theme is “How Does Your Garden Grow?”

Tomatoes are among the many crops that ETC’s women’s group members learn to cultivate, with our training and support. Tomatoes are an excellent source of important nutrients including vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K, as well as the antioxidant lycopene. Here, Krishna Maya of Neerkamal Women’s Group shows off a small portion of her harvest!

Pictured here is Durga of ETC’s Bhimsen Women’s Group showing a very impressive specimen of her daikon radish crop. Daikon radishes are high in vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and potassium among other nutrients. They are also high in fiber. These winter radishes can be sown in mid- to late summer and harvested during the cooler weather.

Pictured here, Bhoti Maya of ETC’s Balambu Women’s Group sits among her thriving cauliflower crop. Cauliflower is an excellent source of vitamins B, C, and K as well as folate. It can be prepared in numerous ways, including as a substitute for carbohydrates!
