Woman with lemon sapling in Dolakha, Nepal

This month’s theme is “How does your garden grow?” Fruit tree cultivation is a longer-term process, but the benefits can be tremendous! The first photo shows a lemon sapling, planted three or four years ago and by now beginning to bear fruit. The second photo shows Bhumika of ETC’s Siddharabak Women’s Group with one of her kiwi vines in April 2018; it should be producing fruit within the coming year, if it’s not already. Both lemons and kiwi are high-value specialty crops, meaning that these ladies will be able to get good prices at market, and the fruits are high in antioxidants and fiber!
