An ETC Student Checks Back In
Kabrindra Maharjan writes to ETC to tell us where he is in life.
ETC’s Private Sponsorship Program was the original sponsorship program created by Pamela Carson. Although the program has not accepted new students since 1994, those already enrolled will continued to be supported until they finish schooling. A recent graduate of this program is Kabindra Maharjan who sent ETC a brief autobiography.
Kabindra’s father passed away when he was very young, leaving the family with no source of income and Kabindra with bleak prospects of being able to complete his education. In 1993, Kabindra was, he writes, “a boy without any aim or knowledge of what to be in the future.” But then through ETC and his sponsors he was able to attend an English-language boarding school. Kabindra was a good student, completed his general education and went on to take a vocational track in his last two years of high school, studying auto mechanics.
After finishing high school, he says he “had a firm desire to continue my education.” With the support of ETC, he began working toward a Bachelor of Business Studies which he will complete this year. But he has also taken a job as a manager in an auto repair business. Because he now had a steady income, he felt that he shouldn’t continue receiving an ETC sponsorship so he left the program of his own accord and is paying for the rest of his education on his own.
In his letter to ETC, Kabindra wrote “I feel like I am an independent person supporting my family in every aspect. I am really grateful to ETC and Judy, Marlyn, and Katherine who helped me to be an independent person. If I get an opportunity to serve ETC in any way, I won’t hesitate.” older articles
